The Arabic language is as old as mankind, having been in existence since the time of Prophet Adam (Alayhis Salaam). It is a language which has developed into a science in itself like no other language; scholars study its grammar and related sciences for no less than six years in the course of a Masters degree. The importance of Arabic in the life of a Muslim cannot be over emphasized as it forms an integral part of submission to the Will of our Creator; i.e. Islam. The methodology of teaching Arabic differs from people to people and community to community to the extent that educational institutions apply different methods according to their aims and objectives. Through this particular series of text books, of which this is the second, an attempt is being made to teach students ‘the language of Islam’. By making use of modern techniques developed for language laboratories it is intended that students will – in the limited time available – be able to understand the broad principles of Islam in the language in which they were originally revealed. The development of the students’ Arabic vocabulary is also presented within the context of an Islamic background. This programme has been tried and tested for a number of years now and it is gratifying to note that it appeals to teachers and students alike with most satisfying results. It is vital for the success of the lessons for the exercises to be tackled conscientiously.
