LMA TRANSPORT
Learners in Lenasia that live far away from any of the established LMA Madrasah are transported to and from Madrasah at no additional cost to the learner. The LMA had four vehicles and employs drivers to transport over 200 learners every day.
Without this service these children are likely to attend a “home ” Madrasah or not attend any Madrasah.
The cost to the LMA for providing this service is approximately R 220 per learner per month. As this is the free service for the learner the LMA has to find additional funds to provide this service.
Taking into account the cost of this service , the special excursions and the administrations of the service the cost to the LMA is over R 600 000 per annum.
FOR THOSE LEARNERS WHO ARE NOT CLOSE TO ANY OFTHE SECTIONS IN THE LENASIA AREA THE LMA PROVIDE FREE TRANSPORT +/- 200 LEARNERS ARE TRANSPORTED DAILY .
This worked beautifully, and the LMA grew from strength to strength to become a leader in the field of Islamic education in South Africa.
As a necessary accompaniment to education, the LMA introduced a welfare wing, which provides financial assistance to students and the people in need. As part of this welfare initiative, the LMA provides a daily meal to approximately 400 students.
The LMA also maintains and administers numerous Masaajid in the Lenasia area.
The history of LMA is intertwined with the history of Lenasia. The LMA was established in 1963 soon after the effect of the group areas act that forced the removal of the community to Lenasia.
Lenasia was a dustbowl with no infrastructure to provide Islamic Education, no Masjids, no Health or Social Services, no Telephones and totally inadequate amenities for a community dumped 30 kilometers from the city.
